YWAM Recife’s ministry focus is to Children at Risk, bringing comfort, food and medical treatment to children who have been abandoned by their families. Many survive the pain of their days through sniffing glue - a heartbreaking site to see children as young as six left to fend for themselves. The YWAM campus in Recife is in a key location to work with a large population of the very poor and often desperate people and children. YWAM Recife’s street team reaches out to the many children who live on the streets. Their principle objective is to receive children who are not able to go home, for a trial period, where the team will be able to see their willingness to adapt to a schedule and then go on to the Hope House. The Hope House is our home for street boys between the ages of 10 – 14. The goal is to reintegrate these boys back into their families and society, when it is possible. We also have a home for girls called Sarah's house. The LOVE Project works with girls and women. Volunteers of all skills are greatly needed throughout the year at Recife. On going projects: The YWAM base is located in the middle of a poor community and right next to a slum. Seeing the need to provide a safe and healthy environment, we began to construct a wall around the YWAM property--something not uncommon in Brazil. One of the projects volunteers can help with is the continued construction of this wall. Volunteers with a heart for children can work alongside the full time YWAM volunteers ministering in the school and to the street children. Each generation has the responsibility and the privilege of responding to Christ’s Great Commission to “GO” and bring the gospel to the nations in their generation. In 2006 a team of 6 was sent out from YWAM Pittsburgh with prayers and affirmation to begin a new work in Boston. It was an exciting challenge to plant a missionary outreach and training center in this city. Since then, the team has grown to 24 staff and now has a multi-focused ministry to the people of Boston, New England, and to the nations. It has been so inspiring to meet pastors and leaders here in Boston who have been diligently working to further the kingdom here. We have established some wonderful relationships with strategic churches and believers. We have ministered in youth groups, church services, and Christian school assemblies. Weekly outreaches using “prayer stations”, worship music, and free coffee on the city streets have been very successful, with hundreds hearing about Jesus Christ, many for the first time. From its founding in 1630, Boston has been a city of historic significance. The founding fathers laid the foundations for this city to be a beacon for His glory, with a sense of destiny that believers here would influence our nation as well as all the nations. Today, Boston is one of the most significant and strategic cities in the world. With its 100+ colleges and universities, Boston is a place where the world gathers. 250,000 university students (44,000 of which are international) are drawn to our institutions of higher learning. YWAM Santiago DR Comments 0
Santiago , COUNTRY: Dominican Republic NEW Updated FEEDBACK: 0
YWAMers Needed: NIKOLAND development and Training Retreats Physical Development: There is huge potential in our NIKOLAND property! What is the most limiting is man hours. We need people with the physical skills to help expand and develop the property. There is also the upkeep aspect that takes time and intentionality. In the Caribbean, things grow year round, so it takes year round maintenance! Camp & Retreat Staff: People with a heart to use adventure, fun and the outdoors to teach valuable lessons. Lessons about God, personal character development, team building and personal growth. We need staff to help in preparing the facility and property for these training times and to help with the retreats and activities for schools, churches, and groups. Some are just for a day, others for a weekend or a whole week. It requires a heart and willingness to serve and work in many different areas along with a mature ability to work with people. Other Areas Help in the Center: During the year we host various short term missions teams. With more people there's more work. We need help in the kitchen, maintenance, hospitality, logistics and many other areas. New initiatives: What is your vision? Has God put the Dominican Republic on your heart? Are you hungry to learn what God is doing here and to get to know a new people? Do you want to explore new ways of how to reach and teach people with the good news? Share your thoughts with us and we'll be glad to have a conversation with you and see how we can come alongside each other or connect you with other opportunities.
