Focus:
Schools:
Staff Housing:
Cost to live: Minimum Stay: 3 weeks Maximum Stay: 3 months Ministry Description Themba is a word from the languages of the Xhosa and Zulu tribes of Africa. It means "to bring hope with a promise that doesn't disappoint." That hope is found in the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ, and making that hope possible is the goal of Village South Africa. Village South Africa endeavors to bring sustainable change to the vulnerable and impoverished children of South Africa. Our mission is to care for the orphans, support the local ministries that are investing in the Transkei community and region, and to plant long-term missionaries in those communities. In order to reach children at risk in South Africa, Village South Africa works hand-in-hand with the following ministries: Jehovah Jireh Haven is a place of safety for vulnerable children in Alexandria in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Besides meeting their basic needs for food, clothing, and a place of safety, their need to be loved and to feel special is of the greatest importance. Jehovah Jireh Haven Children's Home currently needs volunteers for 3 weeks to 2 months to assist with the preschool (creche). Teaching skills are preferred but not required. You will assist with approximately 12-16 children. Lodging, breakfast, and lunch provided. These children have a range of learning disabilities from neglect and health to fetal alcoholism. Some children have normal learning capacities. www.jjhaven.org.za Alexandria Christian Academy provides the opportunity for children to obtain excellence in education through goal-setting, character training, self-discipline, and self-paced education, preparing them to thrive in a working environment. The Academy has needs for teachers/teacher aides for 3 weeks to 6 months. Volunteers will be assisting children from 1st grade through 12th grade. Alexandria Christian School use the ACE method, so you will assist the children as they do their studies. You will also help with after school activities, field trips, etc. www.alexandria.org.za HuntSA (Hunt South Africa) has been involved with Mission Builders International since 2006 and the Village South Africa ministries were formed through relationships with HuntSA. HuntSA is a ministry that connects Christian sportsmen with trophy hunting in South Africa. The meat and finances from these trophy hunts are the primary means of support for Jehovah Jireh Haven and the programs that feed orphans daily in the Transkei region of South Africa. It also champions a Bible school and training opportunities for African Christian leaders. Hunters also get the opportunity to serve God by visiting hospitals and schools and encouraging full-time missionaries in the region. For more information visit their website: www.huntsa.com Needs Have a heart for outreach. We need people to help with our hospital ministry and feeding programs (see ministry information below for specific details). We are also looking for teachers and teachers aides to work with children. Volunteers are accepted during the school term. Ministry is closed from December until the middle of January each year for Christmas break. Other dates not available are the week before and after Easter each year. June 20 - July 20 is closed for school break as is September 20 - October 10th. All other dates are available. www.facebook.com/pages/HuntSA/262707297095847 Skills Needed Carpentry Computer Construction Cooking Electrical Graphics Hospitality Grounds Maintenance Masonry Office Painting Plumbing Vehicle Website Welding Other Skills: Teachers, teacher's aids, hospital ministry, children's ministry, feeding programs Volunteering Application VOLUNTEER APPLICATION PROCESSING TIME: 2 weeks ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEERING APPLICATION: No POLICE BACKGROUND CHECK: No APPLY IN ADVANCE (UP TO): 1 year Primary Languages English - - Accommodations Village South Africa ministries will arrange secure housing for you. To view this form, GO TO: Our Confidential Health Form Hey friends and handymen and women, we need some help in Kona! We have been operating Port YWAM Kona—a 78-room hotel facility—since July 1, 2013. This location serves as home port for our YWAM Ships vessels. It is ideal given its close proximity to Micronesia (our target for outreaches)—only 7-days sail southbound to be among the most remote islands on earth. YWAM Ships exists to reach the isolated and forgotten with God’s love. Ships are the only way to do that in places that have no airports! Being as close as we can to the most remote is very strategic – we literally are right on their back door step and only one mile down the road from the largest University of the Nations campus – University of the Nations of Kona. We have developed a “twin” relationship with UofN Kona since our beginning, which adds great strength to all we do globally. (You can read more about this “twin” relationship in Loren’s book "Is That Really You God.") Mission Builders are urgently needed! Our mission builders serve primarily in our "backbone" roles: kitchen, hospitality/housekeeping, and maintenance. If you have any additional specific skills, we are more than happy to discuss other opportunities or roles you could fill! Needs We also need help aboard our vessel the YWAM Liberty located in Papua New Guinea. We desire to give medical care to the most isolated peoples, and we invite you to come and serve with us and make an impact in the nation of PNG! If you are interested, please check out our other page on missionbuilders.org (the mvYWAM Liberty) and apply today! https://www.facebook.com/ywamshipskona Skills Needed Carpentry Computer Construction Cooking Electrical Graphics Hospitality Grounds Maintenance Masonry Office Painting Plumbing Vehicle Website Welding Other Skills: Tiling Floors Volunteering Application VOLUNTEER APPLICATION PROCESSING TIME: 6 weeks ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEERING APPLICATION: Yes POLICE BACKGROUND CHECK: No APPLY IN ADVANCE (UP TO): 6 months Primary Languages English - - Accommodations Food and housing are covered by the Volunteers fees listed below.
