Medical
Medical Insurance is very wise to come with. You must be on a malarial treatment. We advise you go to your local travel clinic and get their advise on vaccinations. For those with particular food allergies, it may be a challenge as there may not be the variety of options or supplements available. It would be helpful to know early if you have any health requirements or restrictions so we know how best to advise you.
Travel Arrangements and Documents
The airport closet to us is in Dar Es Salaam (DAR). It is a 5-6 hour car journey from there to Morogoro. So it is very helpful to arrive earlier in the day. If one arrives at night we recommend you book into a hotel and travel the following day. We will always send someone to the airport to receive you.

There are three travel options from DAR to Morogoro,
  1. Public coach and taxi $30 USD pp
  2. Hire a private taxi car for up to 4 people $120 total cost
  3. Hire a private mini bus $200 USD for up to 20 people

If you are coming for no longer than 3 months, you will need to make a BUSINESS VISA upon arrival at the AIRPORT. The cost is $250 USD pp. We will provide you with a letter that you will present at immigration.

If you are coming for longer than 3 months, you will need to either,
  • Travel to a neighbouring country and return to make another business visa.
OR;
  • You can apply for a WORK PERMIT, which is valid for two years and costs $500 USD plus $100 USD admin costs (this is due to the offices being 10 hrs apart and documents must be sent and collected in person) and a RESIDENCE PERMIT $250 USD plus $50 USD admin fee. TOTAL $900.USD
The GOOD NEWS is that God is FAITHFUL and we will process the permit for you! All you need to do is provide us with the following documents;
  1. Copy of passport (every page)
  2. CV in English

Ministry Description
YWAM Banana Bank serves at a number of levels, impacting the nations through its schools and community outreaches.

We offer the Discipleship Training School (DTS) once a year in order to develop the students’ Christian character and obedience to God as well as to teach them how to apply what they’ve learned in a cross-cultural context. We offer a short-term outreach program through which we host Belizean conferences and retreats as well as international teams who participate with us in evangelism, Bible distribution and practical projects (such as campus maintenance and construction). We also make our campus available for use by the Christian community as a whole.

YWAM Banana Bank also has a football ministry. Every day in the afternoon, we train 36 boys. Our aim with this ministry is to take sports to a new level, and our campus has become a safe place for many of our local boys because the combination of the gospel and sports allows them to stay away from drugs and the streets. We also teach them life skills that will allow them to have a better quality of life once they are ready to step out into the world. This ministry has also led to seeing some of these boys live, full time, on the campus.

Lastly, YWAM Banana Bank also has a fully operational dance school called "En Croix". Here, children and youth are taught different dances including, tap dance, ballet, and many more. Parents pay to register their children. The money goes into keeping the ministry operational.

About Our Area
YWAM Banana Bank is located on 27 acres of  beautiful land, surrounded by a river and trees. On your time off, here are a few things you can do:

Creek Swimming - Beside the river that surrounds the base, is a creek that flows into the river. With the weather being mostly warm, an average yearly temperature of 84° F (29°C), this is one of the best, free of cost ways to cool down and enjoy a wonderful swim.

Horse Back Riding - On campus are tame, people friendly horses. With permission, they can willingly be made available for rides. Assistance is given to those who are not so skilled at riding.

Tarantula Hunting, Football (soccer), Volleyball, Basketball - All these fun, therapeutic, exercising activities can be done on campus or nearby.

Market Day - Either in Belmopan City (5 minutes drive away from the base), the capital of the country of Belize or San Ignacio (30 - 40 minutes drive from the base), going to the market on market days is one of the best ways to get great deals on fruits, vegetables, clothes, souvenirs, utensils and many more items.

Maya Ruins - There are many Maya ruins in Belize. One of the closest and extravagant is called Xunantunich. It's a 45 minutes drive from the base, located in a town called Benque Viejo Del Carmen. The market day in San Ignacio and Xunantunich in Benque are neighbors, which could lead one to go enjoy both destinations in the same day.

St. Herman's Blue Hole National Park - Consist of two caves, natural trails, and a beautiful, cool, blue pool from which the park's name is derived.

Caves Branch - This is a one-stop, fun destination. Here, one can go zip-lining and or cave-tubing. Lunch can be included if one so chooses.

Caye Caulker - is a beautiful, receptive island. On the voyage there one can go, fish feeding, snorkeling and diving. The boat ride, sea water, reef, coral, sea creatures, and islanders are a must to experience.

Kindly see below for more information of our beloved country.

Belize is a small country below Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula and east of Guatemala. It occupies 8,866 square miles, which is slightly larger than nearby El Salvador, Central America's smallest country. The population of Belize is roughly 333,000.

Come to Belize and you’ll hear familiar words of the English language. In fact, we are the only English language-speaking country in Central America. While English is the official language of Belize, Kriol is the language that we all speak. Belize is culturally unique, with 14 different ethnic groups represented in it’s population. Although it is predominantly Caribbean in culture and race, there is a large Spanish-speaking population, which makes Belize the cross-over zone between the Caribbean and Central America.

One of the nicest things about visiting Belize is the weather. With an average yearly temperature of 84° F (29°C), it’s always warm, yet comfortable.

Rainy season: June through November.
Best work time: December through March.
Hot time: April through June.

Belize is also known for its extreme biodiversity and distinctive ecosystems. On the coast, there is a swampy coastal plain with mangrove swamps. In the south and interior there are hills and low mountains. Most of our land is undeveloped and is forested with hardwoods. It is a part of the Mesoamerican biodiversity hot spot and it has many jungles, wildlife reserves, a large variety of different species of flora and fauna and the largest cave system in Central America. Some species of Belize's flora, fauna and wildlife include the black orchid, the mahogany tree, the toucan and tapirs.

About Our Area
Since its incorporation in 1853, Kansas City has grown into a diverse metropolitan area of over 2 million people with a rich history embodied by its many slogans: the City of Fountains, the Paris of the Plains, Home of the KC Chiefs and Royals, the Heart of America and the Barbeque Capital of the World, to name a few.

At the confluence of the Missouri and Kansas rivers, the city spans the Kansas/ Missouri border. Early on, the railroad industry identified Kansas City as a crucial logistical hub after Hannibal Bridge--the first bridge to cross the Missouri River--was built in 1869.

Today, Kansas City is a major center for technology-oriented business and distribution. Kansas City also offers numerous cultural amenities including the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, the National World War I Museum and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.

Ministry Description
The YWAM Ozarks community desires to make the Kingdom tangible by building & cherishing relationships, training students well, and working hard with our hands in an agricultural setting. Living in the middle of the “Bible Belt,” we try to find ways to demonstrate God’s amazing Kingdom, not just talk about it.

Our 66-acre campus provides much potential for developing AgTech initiatives. Currently we have an expanding garden area for crops and sustainable farming concepts. Our animal population includes pigs, chickens, goats, cows and guinea hens. Additionally, we have bee hives and an aquaponics system.

Community Development is a natural focus for our DTSs, called restore + transform DTS, with a focus on seeing how God desires to transform us and involve us in the transformation of communities in need. On-campus AgTech and similar projects equip students with practical skills usable in the developing world. Overseas outreaches aim to empower communities to find relevant solutions to existing problems, through the help and wisdom of the Holy Spirit.

From the beginning of YWAM Ozarks we’ve emphasized the importance of studying and applying the Word. We offer the Inheritance Discipleship Bible School (iDBS) once each year. Students are immersed in the big picture story of the Bible and will be trained in leading Bible studies in their own unique settings.

We host Mission Adventures teams to spark awareness and interest for missions involvement among high schoolers.
Needs
Volunteer Wish-list for the rest of Summer and Fall 2021:
  1. We need help in trouble-shooting and mitigating leakage due to rain in our buildings. This may include minor siding and roof repair, caulking gaps, grading the landscape to redirect rainfall, and installing more gutters.
  2. Because we have many acres, we have constant need for help in grounds-keeping. Practical help is always appreciated in weed-whacking, weeding, and cutting and baling hay.
  3. We are looking for an individual or team with experience in solar installation to assist or advise on a dorm solar project.
  4. Roofline repair on Admin Building. The roof was re-shingled 6 years ago, but recently we have noticed a sagging between trusses. This needs to be assessed and repaired by a skilled roofer.
  5. The concrete pad at our dorm entrance has a large uneven crack which needs attention and repair. Some assessment and recommendations have been made, including concrete work, re-grading the gravel parking in front of it lot for better water flow.

Special Note: Due to COVID-19, government protocol must be considered if traveling to Saint Lucia. This includes a mandatory negative COVID PCR test, 5 days before arrival, a 14 day quarantine on arrival and certified taxi to approved accommodation / hotel.

Minimum Stay: 1 week Maximum Stay: 9 months
Ministry Description
YWAM SL is a young campus located on the beautiful Island of Saint Lucia. Our heart is to build a community of believers and volunteers dedicated to growing and knowing God, living that relationship out individually and together, and making Him known through our daily experiences from here in the Caribbean to the end of the world.

Our purpose is “to serve and bless the people of Saint Lucia, and the nations beyond its shores.” We see in Saint Lucia a launching pad from which waves of young people from all nations will be equipped to reach the least-reached in all nations. Before COVID we were offering YWAM DTS, Summer Mission Adventures, Prayer Stations, and numerous other ministries in the nation. We give opportunities to numerous volunteers to serve in and out of the Caribbean. We are progressively resuming with some of these program.

We love to host Mission Builders and volunteers who have a heart to serve and to see the will of God be done on earth as it is in heaven. As a newly-established YWAM campus we value any input: skills, advice, and investment of any sort to see this ministry develop!

As a Mission Builder volunteer, your assistance can vary depending on our most pressing need and your area of expertise and interest. We appreciate your open heart and willingness to serve wherever you are needed.

We are located on a very beautiful island, which you will appreciate while here as you take your weekends or other days off to relax and discovers the "Helen of the West".
Needs
Our relatively young YWAM base is in great need of long-term staff or volunteers with a heart to see the ministry established, who;
  • Have a heart for kids? We need people with a heart for children's ministry, sports/coach, and people who can do youth coaching and counselling.
  • Like working in the office? We need help with media and communications, fundraising and accounting.
  • Practical Ministries: other practical ministry may be needed as things get back to normal: carpentry, landscaping, maintenance, construction etc.

Accommodations
Before the COVID crisis, our YWAM base was located in a very beautiful tourist area of the island, within a 3 to 5 minutes walk to nearly everything, from the beach to the mall.

With the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19, we had to give up our previous leased location to avoid accumulating debt. At the moment we are looking for a new facility. Hopefully this will be better for everyone. Let's stay in communication.

Normally we love to live in community where the main meal is eaten together on a schedule, together with other volunteers and guests present at the YWAM base. The main meal is usually either supper or lunch, depending of the base schedule for the season. The other meals are usually the responsibility of volunteers together or the team on campus.

Tap water is normally potable in Saint Lucia; but we often use Brita filters, just in case. If you have replacement Brita filters to donate they would be very welcome.
Costs
Application Fee:

Due to COVID-19 and considering that we have not yet secured a facility capable of hosting incoming guests according to government defined COVID requirements, any volunteer coming may be subjected to Government protocol that may include quarantine in some designated Government approved facility. Before we consider your housing options, let's communicate and stay in communication.

Until recently, our policy was as follows:

If you were from a country "A" (see YWAM UofN definition)
  • those staying longer than 3 months the cost is $270 USD per person per month
  • those staying less than 90 days the cost is $15 USD per person per day
This was to cover a bed at the YWAM base and one daily community meal (either lunch or supper) with other on-campus volunteers and WIFI. XCD
Medical
MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS AND CONCERNS:
As volunteer staff or guests, you are required to:
  1. Be enrolled in your own personal medical insurance that covers your health needs and includes repatriation in case of illness/emergency during or after your commitment at YWAM Saint Lucia (on island and otherwise).
  2. Consult your physician before arriving to make sure that all your required immunizations are up to date during your time of service with us in St. Lucia.
  3. Despite COVID, there is no major endemic in Saint Lucia to worry about. We encourage you to read the updated health protocol on the Saint Luci Government website before traveling.
  4. If you travel with a mosquito net or insect repellent it can save you a few troubles. There are both public and private medical facilities in Saint Lucia as well as numerous physicians.
Travel Arrangements and Documents
Most North American and European citizens can enter Saint Lucia as visitor for up to 6 weeks without a visa, but after the 6 weeks are completed, you must pay US $80 for each additional month along with a letter from the ministry that YWAM SL will request be presented at the immigration office in Castries City. We continue to work on ways to make this process even easier.

There are possibilities to apply for long-term exemption of fees or work permits. We can explore these options, depending on your plans.

There are two airports in Saint Lucia. Most international flights land at the Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) near Vieux-Fort, which is a 1.5 hour drive away from us. Regional Caribbean flights land at the George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU) only 20 minutes from our campus at Castries. We can arrange pick up and drop off for mission builders.

The COVID crisis requires some additional requirements that can be updated on the Saint Lucia government web site or contact us for more details.

Your passport is enough when traveling to Saint Lucia for a few weeks in general, but if you want us to engage the process for a long-term work permit, you will need to come with a copy of your police record and a recommendation letter as well.

If you want to be able to rent a car, bring your drivers license.

For most "A" Nation citizens, a valid passport is enough when travelling to Saint Lucia for a few weeks in general, but if you want us to engage the process for a long-term work permit, you will need to come with a copy of your police record and a recommendation letter as well and a medical certificate among others.

If you want to be able to rent a car, bring your valid drivers license as well.

The COVID crisis require some additional requirement that can be updated on the Saint Lucia government web site or contact us for more details.

About Our Area
Tourism had been the major industry supporting the Saint Lucia economy, with people in general, being very welcoming to tourists. But the COVID-19 has created a situation without precedent, with major hotel being closed and most of their employee lay-offs increasing the un-employment situation that was not at its best from the beginning. All this happened despite the fact that the island was relatively spared from massive COVID infections as observed elsewhere. The few cases observed being imported and quickly isolated.

Before COVID, multiple recreational activities such as outdoor sports, hiking, horseback riding, tree top sky riding, volcanic hot water and sulphur baths and multiple beaches were popular. At the moment despite the slow reopening, things have not yet picked up to where it was.

Our base is presently still looking for a permanent location after the crisis, obliging us to slow down most of our activities.
