But while the practical help delivered by thousands of volunteers has made it possible for ministries to “keep the main thing the main thing,” it is clear that they also need the kind of support that can only be provided by experienced people who understand the unique needs and inner workings of YWAM.

From Fresh Face to Fearless Leader: MBI’s Incoming Director
Some of us remember Ron Brewster as the fresh-faced 17-year-old kid with the spikey mullet arriving at YWAM Lakeside, Montana, in 1987 to enter his Discipleship Training School (DTS). We had no idea Ron would turn out to be a YWAM “lifer.” What we know now is that Ron is a gifted leader/administrator.

Without hesitation, I can say I’m excited for Ron Brewster and our new team to come on board with MBI. They’ll take us to new levels of growth.

Journey Through Change
Serving alongside YWAM ministries in more than 185 nations lends itself to change, and not just in location. Sustaining and growing a ministry like MBI cannot be accomplished alone (in fact, over 80 friends and co-workers have labored together at one time or another over the past 18 years) and we have prayed and patiently waited for God to release His younger leader(s) in order to pass on the leadership of MBI with the charge to take it to the next level.
The Extraordinary Ordinary
Sometimes the amazing things volunteers accomplish are just accumulations of many small, well-done deeds. Tasks as ordinary as cooking meals, mowing lawns, cleaning toilets, or hammering nails become extraordinary in their collective effect.
Oh, What a New Year!
The concept of MBI—connecting Christians with frontline missions—is entering its 40th year. Let that sink in for a moment, if you will. Behind that seemingly simple statement are thousands upon thousands of connections between volunteers and their friends in missions who have responded to the same call: “Who shall go for us?” (Isaiah 6:8)
A Different Kind of Vacation
Mission builder volunteers are a do-whatever-it-takes kind of people. They’re learners who aren’t afraid of new places or different cultures. They fit in almost anywhere; ready to tackle whatever work they’re handed. They love stepping into the relational and spiritual life of the campus they serve, often building life-long friendships with missionaries and other volunteers alike. Mission builders are the stuff real help is made of, which is why they’re first class world-changers.
